Let me start by asking this question.. What is network marketing? Have you also been told that it is not sales? We are told that it is EVERYTHING BUT sales. It is sharing, caring, building relationships, growing a team, personal development with a compensation plan attached… I’m sure you heard some of these stories before.
In reality Network Marketing is sales. So the problem is that we are told everything is so simple that anyone can do it. Then people go out there and do everything wrong. WE ARE NOT BEING TAUGHT SALES.
Go make a list of a 100
This is what a network marketer is told to do when they get started. Usually they are given a “memory jogger” to think of EVERYONE they know. That means you start with kindergarten, elementary, middle all the way to high school and college, then who do you know from work, gym, church, kids school…. you get it.
Traditional network marketing teaches you that EVERYONE IS A PROSPECT where in reality that’s not really the case. Majority of people on your list want nothing to do with network marketing.
Most of the time we are not taught how to even approach those people and before you know it, they will burn through their list and quit.
Got to learn some sales skills…
There are 7 skills that are being taught in traditional network marketing and those are: 1. Finding people 2. Inviting 3. Presenting 4. Follow up 5. Close 6. Promoting events and 7. Presenting.
The problem is that there are lots of moving parts between all these skills. For example, you need to make sure that you confirm and double confirm the time of presentation. Avoid answering “What is it?” question before they see a presentation. You need to overcome objections as they arise, close with urgency and so on and on.
What about deceiving people to watch the presentation like inviting them to a party or a coffee… This all goes on.
All of this is WHY our industry has such a bad reputation.
There are 2 ways to build a business
We talked about the first way which is Old School Network Marketing with PROSPECTING. The second way is MARKETING using Attraction Marketing.
The first way is active, you are approaching people and the second is active, you are marketing and prospects come to you! So which one is better? If you are not into sales then I would say Attraction Marketing is going to be better for you.
I personally like it way better. After years of prospecting and learning sales skills, I just didn’t feel like that approach is for me. I would much rather have prospects come to me.
The best part was that when I was on a month long vacation this summer in Croatia, I was still having leads and sales. And I hardly spent 30 minutes per day on my business. It was all automated and I could enjoy time with my family.
In the past I would be put onto this guilt trip that I am not prospecting when I’m out and about, like in a grocery store. For me I usually go “shocking” (as my daughter calls it) with my kids and IT IS STRESSFUL ENOUGH to keep them away from the isles, grabbing balloons or picking too many snacks…. The last thing in that stressful time is to even think about prospecting. Thank goodness I don’t have to do that or prospect like waiter or waitress at the restaurant…
4 Skills to Master
There are 4 skills in Attraction Marketing for you to learn and master.
1. Audience Attraction
The difference between Old School Network Marketing where everyone is a prospect, in Attraction Marketing we are focusing on one specific market. The first thing that we teach is how to be clear on who that is for you. Once you have that, you can effectively market to them.
In the begging you will be growing your network actively, but later you will magnetically attract them to you.
2. Build influence with that audience
The next step is building influence with that audience. You don’t have to wait till you are a 6 figure earner to grow your influence, you can start now. I know 6 and 7 figure earners who don’t have the influence. No one knows who they are. You definitely want to have it.
3. Enroll effortlessly
Once you have built the influence you will then effortlessly enroll them. This process is very simple because they are coming to you for more information. They see you as an expert and trust in you. You act like a consultant who is helping them with the best alternative for them rather than selling to them and overcoming objections or convincing them to join you.
I now have team members joining me because of me not even knowing what is the company I represent.
4. Automate and Duplicate
And the last step is to automate your processes and systems so you don’t spend more than one hour per day on your business no matter if you are a team of 2, 100 or 1000. I have systems and automation now for almost everything. I have a system for leads, enrollments, training system for my team and to apply to work with me.
I especially LOVE my Team Training System I just created before my vacation. Now they get 30 day onboarding plan with an email sent to them daily outlining what to train on, what video to watch and what actions to take.
After completing 30 days, I teach them Attraction Marketing. Being on my team they get this training FOR FREE. Otherwise they would be spending THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS to learn it the right way.
