4 Dangers…
Did you know that there are 4 hidden dangers when Cold Market Recruiting for your network marketing business?
Just to quickly explain… “Cold market” are people who you don’t know, strangers who you never had any relationships with. And your “warm market” are your friends, family and even acquaintances.
Watch the video below to learn about these 4 dangers.
In the video I talk about my Free Digital Recruiting Bootcamp where you can learn how to enroll people without having to do any cold market prospecting. Find out more by clicking the Learn More button below.
Traditional network marketing
Here’s how it works… First you are told to make a list of 100 of your friends and family. Then you are told to prospect them all. And once you “run out” of people to talk to, it’s time to move on to cold market and start prospecting them.
Before it was done in 2 ways:
- In person by talking to people on the street, malls, restaurants or events
- Purchasing a cold list of contacts to call
Now in modern times it is done using social media.
Just to be clear, prospecting is a real network marketing skill that takes some time to learn. Online, it can go very wrong.
When doing it in person, there are few stages you need to go through with your prospect before they will be interested in your business. It is a skill to learn and it is a sales skill.
My team building experience
I’ve built a team, I created a community and I worked very hard to achieve the success I did. Then I had a few members that left me for another deal, another opportunity. And after they left, they tried to recruit people from my team who I introduced to them who joined me personally.
That was unfair. When doing this, you lose credibility and trust and it can hurt you in a long run. Yes, you may make a few bucks in the short run, but you are losing your reputation and no body will want to join you in the future.
My team members didn’t stay there long. After they joined another new deal, then another and so on….
This made me MAD! Because I worked really hard to build my communities, build my team and train them for someone to take advantage of me like that.
Avoid burning bridges and ruining trust and relationships with people. Especially with people of influence. People never forget when you ruin their trust.
When online became popular everyone was thinking: “Oh yeah, this is awesome, I can truly build my business from home.” But this is not so easy. It is another skill you have to learn.
Everything that you’re doing offline cannot easily translate to online
Usually we start with friends of friends and try to build relationships with these people. Then we connect in different interest groups and connect with people there.
You will face lots of rejection, lots of ruined reputation and even some problems you will run into with your friends. It’s because you are now prospecting and annoying their friends.
And you are probably, at some point, thinking to yourself: “I really don’t want to be that person that’s always bringing up my business in every conversation and just harassing people.” And nobody does.
After 4 years in my business in 2021, I completely stopped online prospecting and recruiting. That was the best thing I ever did and it had 10x-ed my income in just 18 months.
Here are the 4 dangers
1. Cold Market Recruiting is opportunistic
You are being selfish. Especially if you have a “broke” mindset and are only thinking what’s in it for you and not thinking about the person that’s in front of you.
Some marketers realize that and know that it is about the person who is in front of them, their goals and dreams but most network marketers don’t.
2. Cold Market Prospecting is agenda oriented
Every conversation that you start leads to them knowing about your business. It doesn’t feel authentic and it is always in the back of your mind how you are going to bring up the business.
I did not feel good about it and for sure I didn’t like when someone would do this to me. You pretty much know when someone is pretending to be interested in you, your goals, dreams and your life. But in reality they are only “buttering you” up for their “amazing” opportunity.
3. Cold Market Prospecting leads to misunderstanding and alienation
You become that person that everyone starts avoiding. And you turn of any influencers and leaders that you want on your side by spamming their groups and prospecting their people.
4. Facebook hates Cold Market Recruiting
Have you ever been to “Facebook Jail”? By sending too many copy & paste messages in a really short time. I’ve definitely been there. And in some communities and some groups that is an encouraged way of doing business.
Because they know that you need to talk to a lot of people in order for somebody to say: “YES”. Facebook things you are a robot sending all these messages super fast with your links.
And you are running a risk of your profile being shut down from Facebook for being “spammer & scammer”.
Unfortunately this is how network marketing is being taught by many leaders.
So what is the solution for this?
First of all Prospecting is not Marketing.
And prospecting is what network marketers are being taught. Even though “marketing” is in the name of our profession, nobody teaches that. Prospecting is sales.
Facebook LOVES marketing
Over the past 18 months I’ve implemented and teaching my team Attraction Marketing. This is how to attract leads to come to you and want to work with you.
It can be done organically or more automated which is done with ads. I do both for my business. In the future if you’d like to be more scalable and time efficient, then ads are a way to go.
