What does your audience want?
Think about your audience and ask yourself this question. Once you have the answer to that question AND you have a solution to solve that problem, you have everything.
My mentor Tim Erway says: “The one who knows their audience the best wins!”
And this is so true… You need to know how to be attractive, create curiosity, be interesting and knowledgable about the problem that they have and provide solution for their problem.
When you know about their problem, you are creating a need to solve their problem for them.
The most important thing about sales
I’ll share a story about my experience and what I’ve learned back in my early 20’s.
When I was 20 years old I went to work for spas on cruise ships. Before I started doing anything online, my career was a massage therapist and an esthetician. I decided to work on cruise ships to learn english, travel the world and gain new experiences and I did that for 5 years.
The way our pay structure worked there was that cruise ships were taking major percentage of the revenue on spa services, but nothing on retail of the products. This is why we were encouraged if not “pushed” into selling and that’s how we were getting paid the most.
“I just want to relax!”
If you were ever having a massage on a cruise ship and the therapist was aways trying to sell you products, this is why. It was likely our famous Instant Refreshing Gel that was truly amazing for aches & pains and reducing swelling.
So if you are a massage therapist and are running a massage column, you will likely have 10-12 massages booked per day. That is very hard to do. But if you are a dual therapist and also do esthetics, when you are good in sales you can be promoted to do facials or Ionothermie which is a cellulite treatment. Here, you hook people to the machine, sit and talk to them.
I got promoted to doing this treatment after a few weeks of massaging.
I learned the most important rule
The most important rule of sales is you need to find the need and then fill that need…
So how do you do this?!
When you are doing a massage, you have 60 minutes. First 5 minutes is to do a consultation and get your client ready. The 50 minutes is the massage. And the last 5 minutes is to get them off the table, give them recommendations and change the table for your next client.
The most important part is finding the need and here is how I did that…
I would have the client fill out an extensive questionnaire before the treatment. Then we would do the consultation. I would listen not only to their problems but what concerns them the most.
They may have a dry skin they don’t care about but are really bothered about their painful hip. Once I now their need I would tell them how I will customize their treatment for them and will make recommendations at the end.
I’d shut up during their treatment and once I’m finished, I’d sit them up and tell them what products I’d recommend and that I’d leave them at the checkout so they can pick them up.
“I want to take you home with me!”
This was the comment I’d mostly get….
Other therapists would be trying so hard “to sell” and would be talking during the whole treatment, wouldn’t get any sales and a very angry client.
Know who your audience is
You have to know who your audience is and you do this by having a TARGET MARKET. Most network marketers are trying to reach 5000 friends on Facebook and they don’t care who they are and what interests might they have. So when they make a post, it does not relate to all of them.
But if you build a network of highly specified people who share same problems and common goals, your content will be very relatable.
That’s a SHOTGUN mentality… more people you reach, more you have to put your offer in front off.
This method is not very effective and I’m sure you know.
I learned the hard way that “UN-TARGETED audience is useless and it’s a waste of your time.”
You are just spinning your wheels. In order to be a successful network marketer, you need a Target Market.
Your target market needs to be:
- Laser targeted
- Ultra specific
- Highly responsive
Choose your target market carefully and position yourself as an expert and an authority that can provide solutions to what they care most about.
Once you do this you will have the attention of your most likely buyers.
You have to create something called “YOUR CUSTOMER AVATAR”
Who are they? Who are the people that are actually buying?
This is your imaginary person, your ideal prospect. Have a clear picture of them in front of you before you post any new content, do it with them in mind.
Your avatar needs to relate to you and it needs to be something you are also passionate about. Something you are enthusiastic about and can talk about for hours.
Reflect on: What makes you different? What will make people resonate with you? Who relates to your struggles and successes? And who will be inspired by your story?
Then it will be easy to build relationships because that’s what our business is all about.
Now that you have your avatar, I’d like you to list out all of their problems, struggles, frustrations, goals, dreams, language they use and aspirations.
Write it all down in as much detail as possible. This is now your library of future content for years to come.
