“Network Marketing”- what does it stand for?
We are supposed to market to “our” network, right? Basically that means talking to our friends and family about our business. You are not the only one that this sounds SCARY to. I was the same. I didn’t want to be “one of those people” who pitches their friends every time I see or talk to them.
But let’s be HONEST here, our network pretty much sucks. It is not that great…. Despite that, we are told to make a list and talk to everyone we know. Nothing wrong with that. If you have a product/service that you love, you’d want to tell your friends and family about it. The problem is, most of them will not be interested in the business opportunity and become a network marketer.
Either way, if your network is minimal or huge, in time you will run out of people to talk to….
This is when we start tapping into what’s called a “cold market“, people that you don’t know.
What your upline is not teaching you
I promised I was going to share one thing your upline is probably not teaching you, and that is MARKETING. There are 2 ways of building a business and those are PROSPECTING and MARKETING. Prospecting is active you are reaching out to people, where marketing is passive and people reach out to you based on the something you post.
No one teaches you how to market. We think marketing is posting about our products and opportunity is marketing, but in reality it is not. It is spamming. The way to market on social media is leading with value. In order to someone to buy from you, they have to know, like and trust you first. The only way to establish that is by providing value.
The thing you should be marketing instead of your products and opportunity is YOU!
If you were in any traditional business, you’d probably want to pay for and do marketing, but somehow as network marketers we think we can skip that step. Yes “word of mouth advertising” is the best, but that doesn’t come immediately. The word needs to be heard first.
I used to own a Spa, a traditional business. My business exploded when I started getting referrals. But before that happened, I had to send flyers, network, be in the magazines, TV, radio until my name became known.
3 Steps to start getting followers and leads
1. Making connections
We usually start connecting with everyone without plan or a reason, where in reality NOT EVERYONE is a prospect. It is important to have a CLEAR PICTURE who your ideal prospect is and THEN go find them. Whether it is actively by joining similar groups, follow the same pages, posting hashtags or passively with your content. Spend some time here to really get to know who this audience is. Who do they follow, what books do they read, which groups they hang out in….
When you do, then figure out a number of these new connections you’ll be making every single day.
2. Content
Next you need to start posting valuable content that is helpful to your particular audience, what problems are they looking to solve and overcome. You can share this content with posts, stories, live videos and what is really hot right now-reels or Tik-Toks. Short videos like this are the best FREE marketing tool we ever had, so if you’re not taking advantage of it ye, get onboard fast!
The content you create can be either of these 3 E’s: Empowering, Educational or Entertaining. As long as content you are posting is valuable. This means, no more product deals, 2 for one sales no one cares about and are just repelling. Instead we will post valuable content with a soft invite in Call To Action, CTA and not in every post but maybe once to twice a week.
3. Be consistent
You got to be consistent with your strategy. If you are not, you’re always just starting-stopping your business. Give it AT LEAST 90 days when you are promoting to one type of audience you are now building.
For example, I decided to do 1 reel every day and that was like October 31st, so almost 6 months now… and in the last 30-60 days is when I am seeing results of my efforts. I now get 100’s of new followers a week, 1-3 leads in my inbox every single day and sales that are automated.
The key to this is I started talking to my ideal audience with the same call o action in every single video that is now showing HUGE RESULT. If you would like my help with this, just reach out to me by replying here or any of my social media channels, I’d love to help.
Another tip is- YOUR GOAL IS NOT TO GO VIRAL. Viral videos hardly have all the audience that is right for you. I’d rather have less reach but that my viewers are highly qualified in what I offer, which they are.
