Ever caught yourself saying…

“But my team isn’t doing anything”

It is very common for us leaders to think everyone on our team wants to be a millionaire, drive a company car and go on incentive trips. This isn’t the truth. Would you believe if I told you that some people are happy making $0 dollars. Yes you heard me right. Maybe they joined with the intention of building a business, but stayed because of the culture, relationships and products.

I learned this from my mentor Ray Higdon. He says, on every team 80% of people have a desire to make $0 to $500, 15% to about $2500 and only 5% want to take it as far as they can, to millions.

See I didn’t say what they are actually making, but a DESIRE to where they want to be. It is very important that in our “culture”, our team, everyone is welcome. No matter if they are a top earner or they are making $0.

$0 to 6 figures in 30 days

There is a guy in our company sharing a story on the stage. He got to 6 figures in 30 days. Had no experience in network marketing. So basically his story was: he invited 50 people and they all signed up on the highest pack, then he told them to do the same.

When you hear a story like this, does that inspire you? Most people, like 95% in your team would not find this inspiring. They just don’t see this can happen to them. Slow success stories are way more inspiring.

 

How to motivate them?

Fear of rejection

This is the biggest fear your newest team member faces. What if they ask and were told NO or they would look silly. This is where you need to help them overcome that fear. The way to do this is every time you talk with them, give them a little assignment to do before you talk next time.

By doing this, you will avoid having your team stay in a learning only mode and not taking any action.

Making decisions

Most people go through life asking others: “What do you think I should do?” and procrastinate on making decisions. Did you know what’s in common with ALL highly successful people? They make decisions fast and change them ever so often if ever at all.

Why is this important and what does it have to do with motivation? It is because when we don’t make decisions, we procrastinate and this is a pattern we need to break first for us and then our team too. I coach all of my team members through this.

If you are able to help them with decision making, they will push through their fears faster AND start making small wins too. Celebrate and praise them for even the tiniest thing that is a win.

Grow yourself

If you don’t grow you, no one is going to want to follow you as a leader. You always need to be step ahead or even a few steps ahead. If you don’t they will find a leader who is. Spend at least 30 minutes each day working on your mind. I would add minimum. 95% of all our results is from mindset and not our skills.

The skills are important too, but alone without making mindset shift, will be very hard to create new results.
