Selling and recruiting is not a numbers game. It is a recipe for wasting a whole bunch of time on people who will NEVER buy what you’re selling.

I learned this lesson when I was just 19 years old.

My first go at entrepreneurship

If you didn’t know, my background is in the spa industry. I am an esthetician and a massage therapist and I was was very ambitious after I graduated from my trade school. My goal was to open my own spa.

Instead of opening it in a big city where I lived with big competition, I decided to open it in a smaller place where my grandma lived. It was a small city, almost a farm type area where there was only one beauty salon in it.

That ended up being my first failure in an entrepreneur’s world.

And I figured it was a no brainer after hearing some stories on how this other salon owner operated. She’d put her client under a steam and tell them she will go to feed her pigs in a meantime. That’s how bad it was.

No one in this rural area was regularly having facials or massages….

I had a few clients, but they traveled quite far from big cities to come see me. So for me having no competition, I thought I was going to kill it, but that’s not what happened.

After 6 months of building a brand, marketing myself, educating people, I was still not profitable and I had to close.

This was my lesson! I learned that business is not just a numbers game. It is your right audience that is a key.

My audience wasn’t the right one

I am not the only one…. Almost 90% of network marketers promote their products and services to the wrong audience. Don’t let this be you. Know WHAT exact words to use and WHO to say them to.

If you follow this process, you are going to be more like a consultant helping your audience solve problems and provide them with solutions.

Who is your TARGET MARKET?

We are going to do a little exercise…

Grab a sheet of paper and separate it in 4 columns.

  1. The first column will be your target market.
  2. Problems and struggles
  3. Desires and desired outcomes
  4. Specific language they use

1. Target Market

Let’s talk about this one first… This is who you are going to sell your products and services to. Let that be “cubicle slaves” in our example.

So what types of struggles and problems do they have? They work in a corporate job that they hate and think there may be something more out there for them.

2. Struggles & Pains

  • They hate their job
  • Hate commuting back & forward to their work
  • Missing their family
  • Don’t fill fulfilled
  • Stressing out
  • Deadlines
  • Hate being on time
  • Hate their boss
  • Work too many hours
  • No time freedom

So go ahead and fill in those details in whoever your target market is.

3. Desires & desired outcomes

What do they want?

  • Time freedom
  • Financial freedom
  • Possibly to work from home
  • More time with their family
  • Travel more
  • Explore new places

Don’t rush through this. It’s the most important exercise when it comes to Attraction Marketing. You have to be clear on WHO you want to attract.

4. Language

You have to make sure that you speak the same language as your target market. They need to understand you and relate with you. So what are some of the language patterns that cubicle slaves have?

  • Clocking in
  • Their boss
  • Working overtime
  • Traffic
  • Managers
  • Deadlines
  • Working weekends

Your mission

So you got an idea on how to do it…. And did you take time and do it? If you did, I applaud you for this!

Now we can use all of this information to create content and headlines. For example on your social media profile you have an intro section. Using this table you can state your mission very powerfully.

Here is the formula:

I help __________(my target market) to_____________(desired outcome) without _________________(pain). Now you have your intro message so go ahead and add it in your social media profile.

Use this table every time you create any video or post. Always ask yourself: “Is what I’m about to post helpful to my target market?”
