It is important to prospect the right people. But what most network marketers are told is to talk to everyone who can fog a mirror in front of them. THAT EVERYONE IS A PROSPECT.
You don’t want to be desperate. You want ACTION TAKERS who are going to build your network marketing business without you having to hold their hand.

A qualification process for your team
When you’re building your network marketing team, you got to have a qualification process.
MostWorld-Class CLOSERS have a “Signature” Qualifying Question that they find particularly effective.
1. “Is now a bad time to talk?”
This is what Chris Voss (an ex FBI hostage negotiator) asks as his as his qualifying question. When you are working in such a sensitive environment with probably a gun pointed at someone’s head, one wrong word could change direction of the conversation. He was very good at asking non-threatening questions.
Now, after a successful career, he now teaches sales and negotiation skills all over the world.
People HATE committing to things and having them on a hook.
That’s why your prospect is looking for an excuse to tell you NO as soon as possible.
So “a NO oriented” question like this one gives them a chance to walk away, gives them “an out”.
2. “If you could create an ideal situation, what would that be?”
This is a signature question from Brian Tracy.
Network Marketer cannot know what their prospects want and are not telling them. So you ask them to IMAGINE their ideal life and share it with you.
When you ask an open-ended question like this one, 2 things happen.
- They imagine anything that they want
- Realize what’s working and what’s not working in their life right now.
IMAGINATION is really powerful. Always encourage your prospects to use it. Most people don’t use imagination. It stopped somewhere when your teacher told you: “Stop looking out the window and pay attention!”.
So people stop dreaming and imagining their perfect life. When you think about it, everything was created in someone’s imagination first. All the big inventions and everything in this world was created in someones mind.
When I first started my network marketing business, I imagined living in a beautiful house, having my kids in great schools, traveling and visiting my family in Croatia every summer.
And now, it’s the third year in a row we spend a month in Croatia, we are moving into our dream house next month, we travel, kids go to great schools. Also when I thought about this, we only had Jack and now we are blessed with Grace, our rainbow child too.
Everything that I wanted and imagined is now my reality… now I’m onto new great dreams and goals and to help others achieve theirs.
3. “Other than yourself, who else might influence the decision?”
And this is a signature question of Grant Cardone.
Your new team member is likely discouraged by people around them. They hear stories from their uncle Bob who has a garage full of products. He joined an MLM like 35 years ago and it never worked for him…
So people are naturally skeptical and they are scared.
Provide them with the confidence they need so they can legitimize this opportunity in the eyes of the others. Make them bulletproof.
4. “Are you happy and satisfied with what you’re currently doing?”
And this qualifying question is from Lisa Grossman, a network marketing legend.
Most people HATE what they do!
You will find out what irritates them. Engage your prospects emotionally while learning about their fears, goals and dreams. And it is building a rapport by showing an interest in the other person.
5. “Sell me this pen!”
This is Jordan Belfort, the Wolf of Wall Street himself. He uses it when recruiting for his sales team that would later become cold calling rockstars. I’ve read his book and his method Straight Line is all about asking the right questions and building rapport with his clients supper fast over the phone.
It is really a trick question.
And it puts people on the spot. But, at the same time he trains them on how they should respond to this.
Some people will get offended by this question and will show their bad attitude. This is where he can disqualify them.
You can use a similar strategy to know who is going to be coachable in your team.
These are the 5 qualifying questions from the World-Class Leaders.
But maybe you are asking yourself: “That’s great but I don’t have a pipeline of people I can have a closing conversations with…”. And: “Do I go now and prospect more people?” The answer is NO!
